Johnnie Cochran

Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. (1937-2005), was not only America’s most recognized lawyer, he was a seasoned litigator and leader in the legal profession. Today, The Cochran Firm, with offices in several major cities throughout America, is one of the largest law firms serving injured people and their families.

Before he established his own Los Angeles-based law firm in 1981, his early career included experience as the Assistant District Attorney in Los Angeles, where he had administrative responsibility for 600 lawyers.

First and foremost, Johnnie Cochran was a civil trial lawyer as well as a personal injury lawyer who began obtaining record verdicts for victims of negligence in the 1980s. His remarkable achievements continued, and in the 1990s he settled or tried to verdict numerous record setting, landmark, and high profile cases.

Already known as an outstanding trial lawyer, his famed role as lead counsel in the O.J. Simpson trial brought him national public recognition. He received both the Criminal Trial Lawyer of the Year and Civil Trial Lawyer of the Year awards from the Los Angeles Bar Association.

In 1995, he was named America’s Trial Lawyer of the Year by the prestigious National Law Journal as well as being named one of the Headliners of the Year by Time Magazine. In 1996, Mr. Cochran was selected for membership in an exclusive group of trial lawyers, The Inner Circle of Advocates, which is composed of the top 100 personal injury lawyers in America.

The Cochran Firm is the realization of Johnnie Cochran’s dream to bring justice to all Americans who suffer because of the wrongdoing of individuals, corporations or governments. With its resources, legal talent and Johnnie Cochran’s leadership, The Cochran Firm will continue to expand his success in obtaining justice and compensation for the injured.

Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr., may have become well known because of his representation of celebrities in high profile cases, but his true measure of success came from his lifelong dedication to fighting for the injured and the disenfranchised.

FOSAMAX FEMUR FRACTURE: THE EVIDENCE MOUNTS Today’s on-line edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) included publication of a major case control study relating to bisphosphonates (particularly Fosamax) and subtrochanteric femur fractures. The researchers who authored the study concluded that patients on long-term bisphosphonates for osteoporosis therapy had a 274% higher chance of subtrochanteric femur fractures than similar matched patients. (OR 2.74.) The authors concluded “these findings provide strong evidence that prolonged bisphosphonate therapy is associated with an increased risk of subtrochanteric or femoral shaft fracture.” Join us for a free teleseminar on the Fosamax femur fracture litigation including injury and damages profile, scientific evidence discussion, and litigation strategy, hosted by Levin Papantonio partner Tim O’Brien and…
