Mike Papantonio

Mike Papantonio organized the mass tort department at Levin, Papantonio 25 years ago when the firm undertook the battle against the asbestos industry. Since that time, he has represented thousands of asbestos clients, and received numerous jury verdicts in excess of $1,000,000.

Mr. Papantonio presently heads the mass tort department at Levin, Papantonio. This department has handled cases throughout the nation, including Asbestos, breast implants, Dalkon Shield, Fen-Phen, Hemophiliac-AIDs, L-Tryptophan, railroad disasters, Qui Tam and the Florida Tobacco Litigation.

Mr. Papantonio is listed in the publication, Best Lawyers in America and Leading American Attorney . He is also a Fellow in the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers. Mr. Papantonio received his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida where he was inducted into Florida Blue Key in his junior year. He received his law degree from Cumberland School of Law where he was chosen head of the trial advocacy department. He is a Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer who has authored and co-authored instructional articles on handling mass tort cases, including Defenses You Can Count on in an Asbestosis Case and How to Prove a Sick Building Case.

Mr. Papantonio regularly lectures on topics ranging from cross-examination of defense experts to preparing and trying product liability cases. He also lectures on staying motivated as a trial attorney, which are based on his three books, In Search of Atticus Finch, A Motivational Book for Lawyers ; Clarence Darrow, The Journeyman ; and Resurrecting AESOP , Fables Lawyers Should Remember. He is a co-author of Closing Arguments – The Last Battle. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Southern Trial Lawyers Association and the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers (where he served on the Board of Directors for five years).

Mr. Papantonio limits his practice to mass torts, product liability and personal/injury wrongful death litigation.

FOSAMAX FEMUR FRACTURE: THE EVIDENCE MOUNTS Today’s on-line edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) included publication of a major case control study relating to bisphosphonates (particularly Fosamax) and subtrochanteric femur fractures. The researchers who authored the study concluded that patients on long-term bisphosphonates for osteoporosis therapy had a 274% higher chance of subtrochanteric femur fractures than similar matched patients. (OR 2.74.)
